Why I love the show “Community”

I don’t watch much TV anymore, not since resolving to elect a healthy lifestyle.  I watch very few television shows live too- I usually stick to on demand services and avoid spoilers at all cost.  One show I look forward to every week is NBC’s comedy, Community.  The show stars Joel McHale (best known for E’s The Soup) as a disbarred attorney who is forced to attend Greendale Community College when another attorney exposes his secret, he never went to college.  He is joined by a collection of fellow students played by Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown.  (note: Donald Glover and Chevy Chase departed the show this past season).  The cast, rounded out by Jim Rash as the flamboyant dean and Ken Jeong (best known for his role in the Hangover series) playing the sometimes teacher sometimes student Chang, are masters of comedic timing and the most animated personalities I’ve seen in a live action television series.

Show runner, Dan Harmon, has kept the stories going for five years now and takes a very tongue and cheek approach keeping the show fresh and unique each season.  My favorite episode to date, the single show that won me over as a fan is title “Modern Warfare” and involves a campus wide paintball game gone wrong.  The campus is quickly transformed into a Rambo-esque war zone filled with every action movie cliché you can think of and even more you forgot.  Sadly the ratings have not always been in Community’s favor, constantly flirts with cancellation from season to season.  One season, there was a scheduling snafu, resulting in this very creative and hilarious You Tube video: http://youtu.be/7LV7M_WeGX8.

In last season’s finale, there was a hidden message displayed hinting at 2 additional season (including this one) and a movie.  With an end coming up- it’s not too late to catch up on the episodes.  You can find most of the episodes on NBC on Demand or if you’d prefer to you can purchase the episodes on dvd from www.philtasticshopper.com
